Take the stress out of pet stain removal with these tips from the Chem-Dry pros.
#1 – Make your own cleaning solution.
Try making your own cleaning solution, like one of the following:
Baking soda and vinegar. Soak the stain with vinegar, then sprinkle baking soda on top. Cover the area, wait 1-2 days, then scoop off any remaining baking soda and wipe the area clean.
Dish soap. Add ¼ teaspoon dishwashing detergent to one cup of warm water. Spray on the stain and repeat as needed until the stain is gone.
Ammonia. Mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia and one cup of water. Treat the stain, and repeat until it’s gone.
Hydrogen peroxide. Combine 4 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide with 2 tablespoons of warm water and a couple drops of dish soap. Let the solution sit on the stain for about 10 minutes, then rinse and wipe dry.
With each homemade solution, test a small area of your carpet first. Also, always gently blot or scoop up as much of the stain as you can before treating it.
#2 – Use a store-bought cleaner.
Find a store-bought cleaner that’s marked as non-toxic and safe for pets. Spot Shot, Resolve, or OxiClean work well. Be sure to use a small amount at time, and rinse away any dirt-attracting residue with water when finished.
#3 – Schedule professional pet urine removal.
Keep in mind that DIY methods are generally great for removing surface stains. However, these or even professional carpet cleaning alone won’t be enough to get rid of pet stains, odors, and dust for good.
Schedule professional pet urine removal at least on an annual basis. Chem-Dry can break down, extract, and remove potent odor crystals trapped deep within carpet when pet urine dries.
